The Holidays are supposed to be a time for you to be in a jolly good mood and to have a jolly good time. But more often than not, you find your self stressing over the Holiday meal/s, decorations, guests, and most of all, gifts.
A lot of people see gifts simply as expenditures, and all they focus on is getting a fairly decent gift for a certain amount of money – more often than not a considerable amount. And then there are some people who feel embarrassed if they give a gift worth only a few dollars. This line of thinking totally misses the mark of what Christmas gift giving all about.
Christmas gift giving is not about money, but rather as a kind of expression of how you feel about a person. Gift giving has so much more to do with thinking about the other person. And once you have this notion down pat Christmas gift shopping will feel much less a chore or burden and gift giving will be a lot more enjoyable for you and the recipient of your gift.
When shopping for a gift, think about the person who will receive your gift. Think of the recipient in terms of who the person really is and not just as “this co-worker.” Consider what he or she is interested in, what he or she enjoys doing, and what his or her passions are. For instance, if you have a colleague whose things, you noticed, have pictures of cats and you spot a mug with a handle shaped like a cute cat, give that mug some serious consideration. Or if you have a friend who loves his herbal drink, consider giving him lovely box of specialty tea. If you have a stressed out mom for a sister, consider giving her a gift certificate to a spa or a small collection of essential oils that she can use for massages or to make her room smell great. Gifts like these will not cost you an arm and leg, yet they will be much appreciated by the people who will receive them because you really gave a lot of thought to what you were giving instead of just setting an amount and buying anything that fit the bill.
Remember, when you give someone a really thoughtful gift, the memory will stay with them for a long time.
